HS Coach - College Coach Outreach?

Anonymous
If your kid's HS soccer coach is a reputable club coach (from a different club and age group than your kid), is there any harm in the player asking him or her to reach out to the college coaches at his top 2 or 3 schools to provide a reference on the player? Obviously, the club coach is the main contact for recruiting purposes, but just wondering if there's any value in a second voice of support. I know ultimately the kid's stats and play in the club context, showcases, and camps are most important, but this is a second person who can speak to your kid's work rate, skills, soccer IQ, coachability, leadership, etc. so was thinking it couldn't hurt. Player is a current sophomore playing in a top league and on varsity for HS, trying to get organized for summer ID camps.

I doubt College coaches will pick up the phone to HS coaches

Our private HS Athletic Director most certainly will along with the soccer coach. They have a lot of top recruits in other sports Football/LAX/Basketball so know the process and the Coaches well.

Outreach and a system. They do it for top recruits in the country basketball/football and they have players playing overseas. Of course the kids played on high club teams too.

JMU coach was probably there to watch a specific player who already reached out, coach watched film and already vetted the player. Wanted to see how they act off the field, in warmups, social dynamics, leadership etc and the eye test of watching a live game.

JMU coach is NOT going to scout random players who coach has no idea if they have any interest whatsoever in JMU.

Interesting since D1 coaches are not allowed to attend games right now during the dead period.

Or JMU coach has personal connection to player or coaches on either team. Who was Stone Bridge playing against?

There is no way the coach is that stupid. It’s a clear violation and if the kid ends up not getting recruited, it’s not hard to send a video to the NCAA or JMU compliance if they are bitter about it

The same coaches aren’t recruiting football and soccer. Football and basketball are sports where recruiting is done through schools (basketball is aau too, but WCAC is getting scouted). I can’t think of any school league where the same would be true of soccer

Really? Ya don’t say. First of all, the football team actually has paid scouts because there’s big time money involved. Soccer, it is often the coach or the assistant. Low budget. And they will come to a high school game if it is relatively close (in state) and there is a player(s) of interest in the game. But yes’m most college soccer coaches go to showcases where they can see lots of quality players at once.
