I need a good tinted moisturizer for combination (T-zone) skin. I've seen recommendations for Laura Mercier, does it work for combination skin? Any other recommendations? Anyone tried MAC? I usually like their products, since I have an olive toned skin.
I tried Laura Mercier but found it tacky/heavy. I've been happy with Chantecaille's tinted moisturizer, which is more lightweight.
Tinted moisturizer poses a problem. Your face and neck need to be the same color. A tinted moisturizer on the neck doesn't work as it gets on collars. If you use one, it must be very, very close to the real color of your face.

I have combination skin and tried both Laura Mercier and Smashbox. The Smashbox worked best, it kept me matte all day, didn't even need to blot, could not see any flakes, and gave me a wonderful tanned look that blended really well with my natural color, no problem with the neck.
However, it was a bit dark and dry for the eye area so I mix the Laura Mercier one with my concealer to cover my dark circles. |
I use Estee Lauder's, and have been happy with it.
I have combo skin and use Laura Mercier's oil free tinted--it works great, though I still glow by a certain point in the day. I also have tried Smashbox, but I like the coverage of LM better--my fair to light skin seemed to work well with LM's Nude, but I was between SB's two light shades. I think SB has more goodies in it for your skin too. You can check both out and get samples of both at Sephora--I would do that if I were you.
Thanks everyone! I'll go check out the offerings at Sephora.
i like Laura Mercier, but I prefer a 'dewy' look over a 'matte' one. I never use powders.
I like Lancome, bisque. I also have olive toned skin. I use the oil free version. However, I have been doing skin peels to even my skin tone and have been a bit dry, so I just bought Kiehl's -- very expensive. I hope it works.
Kiehl's has one and it has SPF in it... as does Aveeno. I like them both but the color choices are limited.
I love Murad's.
you can also take your favorite moisturizer and add a few drop of your favorite foundation. Ta-da, tinted moisturizer that matches your skin tone. And no extra bottles on your dresser.
Yep, this is what I used to do before "tinted moisturizer" was a common product offering. Works great and you can create specific "blends" for different areas of your face - gradually reducing color, for example, as to move to the neck area - gradually, I say, so as not to end up with that "tan face, white neck" look. |
