Washington DC needs places for dogs to run off leash

The chain fence dog parks don’t work. Other big cities like New York and San Francisco have places where dogs can run free. Central Park is open to dogs off leash in the morning and the evening. There are tens of thousands of dog owners in dc and they deserve a place to legally run their dogs. I wish someone in dc government would coordinate with the feds to set aside a 10 or 20 acres somewhere in this green city

Why, when you arseholes let them run off leash in every corner of the city as is? You terrorize my kids and you are selfish. Get a yard and if you can’t afford one then you can’t afford a dog.

Or maybe get a small dog who is thrilled with a stroll around the park and gets their energy out from running in a condo. Big dogs don’t belong in the city.

Why don’t the chain fence dog parks work? That’s... what they are for.

Honestly, I like the current situation because I don’t mind off leash dogs as long as they are well behaved, but I like that it’s technically illegal because it’s leverage against the terrible dog owners who have not trained and do not know how to manage their dogs. If you make off leash dogs ok in the big multi-use parks, what do you do about all the dog owners who don’t handle their dogs? As it is, the bad dog owners are incredibly rude and entitled. We don’t need to empower them.

OP you made your decisions. Use the dog parks, buy/rent/visit a farm that allows this, make better decisions.

I agree with you OP. There should be off leash times at some parks or more dog parks. I always thought it’d be nice to have dog parks you could reserve for 20-30 minutes.

This is stupid. I have a big dog and live in an apartment. I bring him to the dog park and walk/run him. He gets plenty of exercise.

You can let your pitbull rescue run off leash as soon as the rest of us are carrying a suitable handgun. Until that happens, keep your murderdog on a leash.
