SWS Swing Space

Any news on the SWS swing space? We just got in and are trying to figure things out.

What do you mean by news?

I’ve never been inside it, but my daughter likes it, as does her teacher.

It’s definitely safer from a Covid standpoint than most schools, since the classrooms have separate (new) HFAC systems.

Congrats on getting an offer. It’s a great school.

P.s.: I drive my daughter, but others have had a good experience with the bus (which leaves/returns from/to SWS).

What time does the bus leave SWS in the AM and return back in the afternoon? Is construction on track? Will they be back in the SWS building in Fall 2022?

The bus times are presently staggered by grade/cohort due to Covid. At present the departure times from SWS to the swing space range from 8:05-8:25. The return times to SWS range from 3:05 to 3:25. I have no idea if there will still be staggered times next year.

I believe the project is still on track and the school is still expected to be in the SWS building for school year 2022-23. At least, if there are delays nobody has told parents yet. I believe another school is scheduled to swing into the space that school year, which will presumably put pressure on DCPS to keep to the current renovation schedule.

I'm a little skeptical, because we use the playground a lot and there hasn't been any obvious movement on construction (kids definitely could have stayed in the building for this school year at this rate), but I assume DCPS gives themselves loads of extra time.

Congrats on getting a spot. It is an amazing community. We transferred in from another school and couldn’t be happier. I know a few families that joined this year and who have still held great experiences (especially once their kids went back in person).
