Burgundy Farm

Anonymous
Has anyone ever been given a contract extension for Burgundy Farm? We were admitted to several schools and are overwhelmed right now with considering our options. BF has a response date of this Friday and we don't think we can decide that quickly. Has anyone been granted an extension for signing a contract at this or any other school?

Any suggestions are appreciated. Thank you.

You should just hurry up and decide so that those of us who are waitlisted have a chance to get in.

OP, you do need to make some kind of commitment - you've had time. Narrow down the field - or put down the deposit.

It won't be any less overwhelming to make a decision in another week ... time to decide. If you need more time, then make a deposit. It's not fair to keep stringing multiple schools along and it is very unkind to those on the wait lists.

Just decide already!

OP - what are your reservations? Why are you only asking about extensions from Burgundy? If they are not a top contender, you should probably give up the spot.

OP here -- We are not stringing along any other schools. BF is our first and only choice but we had no idea of the financial commitment due so soon to the school. This is our first time applying and we had no idea the school would require $1000 right after you receive your admission letter. We also had no idea of the extra charges (aftercare, tuition insurance, charge for monthly payments, annual fee), so we are thrown for a loop with that extra expense. We are trying to figure out ways to afford the extra charges in our budget and feel ok with that before committing to virtually $27,000 with a deposit payment due this Friday and then monthly payments beginning in April 1st for the remaining balance. Our existing school did not require any money upfront and we simply began payments when school started in August. We had no idea that schools had such different financial policies.

First you say:

Then you say:

Also, they list on the aftercase and other charges on their website. I found that they are one of the few privates that actually do tell you the amount.

Tuition insurance is optional. We never bought it.

All those fees you mentioned are available on their website and have been since at least 2 years ago when I checked. I am sure you could have asked the school also anytime during the admission process.

I can understand your concern though if you are having trouble just coming up with the $1K that is due with the contract.

You may want to call them and see if they will grant you a little extra time. We had one school offer to do that for us. They may not, be it wouldn't hurt to call and ask.

This is pretty standard for all the independent schools. Most offer a 10 month plan that runs from April or May, or you can do a single payment or a 2 payment plan. As a pp noted you don't need to do the tuition insurance. We've never done it but were always confident we would not withdraw during the year. Deposits are also standard and $1000 is actually pretty low.

Thought those fees would be factored into financial aid and had no idea financial payments began so quickly (especially when we have payments due to our current school through August).

OP- I didn't realize it the first year either. The school is upfront about it, but I still didn't realize how much I would have to pay before the year started.

What is the purpose of this forum? I thought it was for people who did not know the answers to get answers or seek advice.

Why are you not helping but criticizing? I do not understand you and others who are just insinuating that I holding up a waitlist person from hearing they are in. I really hope all of the parents at private school are not like you if I am able to enroll my child. Why can't people just offer help when someone asks? How do people with no experience learn if everyone assumes you should have figured it out? Wow, this will be the last time I ask a question.
