| I just found a dove trying to build her nest in the wreath on our front door. Bad idea for her because we use it all the time. Do I just pull it out? Or do we have to let her do her thing and avoid the area for a couple months? She doesn’t seem to take the hint as we open and close the door, even though she flies off every time. |
| Remove the wreath for a few days. She will go elsewhere. |
| remove the wreath before she lays eggs. |
| You will have to remove the wreath and then you can put it back once they’ve gone elsewhere. You can knock it down and they’ll just keep trying to build. I have a dove that tries every year (I have to assume it’s the same one) on my front door. |
| We were in the middle of building a screen porch but the screens were delayed a few weeks. Those doves were persistent. We stuffed all the little nest areas (where the ceiling meets the walls) with towels and cardboard and still would remove their nest material every other day or so. Then the small birds started coming and we would do the same. Once the screens got on, I took the dog out one day and left the door open for 1 min-came back in to see a bird flying around. I chased it with an umbrella and it finally flew out--I only noticed a broken egg laying on the ground later! poor thing! |
Welp. I checked today and she has laid an egg in there. So.....I guess we will not be using our front door for a while. My nanny tells me it is good luck in fung shui. I’ll go with that I guess. |
Just make sure no one forgets. We had the same situation last year and wound up with a bird in the house twice. |
