Wondering if people have recommendations for furniture consignment companies for higher end furniture? I need to sell a dining room set I have. In terms of style it would fall in the modern category. We purchased the set at La Difference in Richmond and it was designed by a Canadian furniture maker. I've put it on Facebook Marketplace and there was interest I'm thinking that's not the right outlet. We paid 6K and are asking $1,800.
Has anyone used a local company to consign furniture? If you are into buying used high-end furniture where do you go? |
| There is a place called Eisenhower Consignment in Alexandria, and you could try Chairish or 1st Dibs but ultimately I think there’s very little market for something like that. |
| Gone Girl in Bethesda |
Is $6,000 high-end? There is a ton of used furniture on the market. I wouldn't expect to make more on consignment than you would through a private sale. |
Well I guess I'm just looking to get some $$ from it and at the same time get it out of my house. |
Honestly you’ll be lucky to get $100. People don’t need dining sets, and $6k is somewhere above cheap but below expensive. |
??? Lots of people have dining sets. |

Try calling Evolution in the Fairfax County part of Alexandria. They do consignments, they have a large space and get a lot of traffic. You also could try Reunions for your consignment in Alexandria off of Quaker Lane.
Another option is to see if one of the estate sale companies will sell it for you through one of their sales. Try Gale at For Sale by Gale or try Susan at Bethesda Potomac Estate Sale - A Fair Lady. If you want to try an online auction then you should call Alexandria Auctions or Quinn's. For Sale by Gale also does online auctions. If you're willing to get it over to them you could try Everything But The House (EBTH). It is in Cinci though. I live in the DMV and I've driven there/back in a day (8 hours or so each way) when I've bought something and I wanted it fast (shipping it would have cost me more than I paid to get it in 2 days). Obviously you would need to drive your table there, have them evaluate it, and then they would add it to one of their auctions. Unfortunately I don't think you will get anywhere near $1800 for it no matter who you use or what you do. |
| Another recommendation for Evolution Home. They will be very honest with you about whether they think it will sell and for how much. |
| OP, advertise it on Craig's List - I've had lots of luck with furniture resale there. But agree with others that your pricing hopes are way too high. |
| Op, your problem is price. Just lower it, Facebook marketplace is probably your largest audience. Consignment stores typically keep 35 to 40 percent and you are responsible for the cost of transporting your stuff to their store. |
| I just sold a fancy gold framed mirror on Chairish. I got about 1/3 of retail (it's still being sold by the company), which isn't bad. I was surprised it actually worked. |

Thanks so much! |

+1 for CL. I've seen B&B Italia, Knoll, etc. on CL.
