| 16 year old DD has increased anxiety. She is falling behind on some year end project because of fear or failure/anxiety. I would appreciate any names of therapists who could help her develop strategies to deal with this. (In all honesty, I struggle with these issues myself and have never faced it head on so it is really hard for me to see her go through this and to effectively help her figure out ways to deal with it). Thanks in advance. |
| Sibley Group in upper NW DC has a number of therapists who work with teens with anxiety. We’ve had a good experience there. |
| Ross Center. Long wait list but it’s been amazing for our anxious kid. |

Hi there - As the mom of two anxious kids, I wanted to point out that there's a lot a parent can do to help an anxious kid by changing our behavior. It might take you a long time to get in with a therapist, but you can start to make some changes in your parenting in the mean time (and that in no way is an accusation that this is your fault). Look into the ideas of accommodation versus supportive parenting. A really good book on this is "Breaking free of child anxiety and OCD: a Scientifically proven program for parents" by Lebowitz. Supposedly changing your parenting can be as impactful as therapy for the kid.
Good luck with your daughter - the end of the school year is brutally stressful, especially for juniors this year (I have one, too)... |
+1. Really helped my DD. |

The Center for Anxiety and Behavioral Change - in Rockville, right off 270. They have many therapists but they all center around anxiety (ADHD, OCD, social anxiety, general anxiety, school refusal, eating disorders, dissociative identity disorder, etc. - everything).
Also this book is very good and I believe the author is local (North Bethesda) - Anxiety Free Kids: An Interactive Guide for Parents and Children by Bonnie Zucker. I used it for my 14 year old in addition to the above CABC. |
Any specific therapist recommendations? And is it all telehealth or are they doing any in-person sessions? |
