Is anyone else getting a lot of ads for club tryouts this year? I don’t remember ever seeing this many. I see them all the time on Facebook for clubs from all over NoVA. Big clubs, small clubs, new, old.
Are clubs seeing less interest this year so they need to advertise? More competition among clubs? COVID effects? What is going on? |
https://www.nj.com/highschoolsports/2021/05/covid-could-cost-us-a-generation-of-student-athletes-some-are-sounding-alarms-about-a-crisis-already-unfolding.html Seem there is a drop off in interest. |
| Lol, you are searching for soccer info and triggering the FB sniffers. |
| I feel like there is more movement this year. Maybe I have forgotten because covid kept a lot of kids in their team last year, but it seems like kids are swapping clubs this year. That being said, I also feel like there isn't a ton trying out. We have been to two local highly regarded club tryouts so far and less than 5 kids have shown up for my son's age group. I know both teams will be having more movement than that so I don't know what is going on. |
I think a lot of teams have had kids out practicing and tryouts are less priority for movement? Just wild speculation. |
I’ve noticed this too. But the poster who mentions FB and Google sniffers is right. The algorithm follows everything we search. The director of my ds’ team said a lot of kids have signed up to tryout, and that some kids need to battle hard during tryouts to keep their top team spot. I’ll find out Monday, but I think it’s bs in hopes of motivating the kids to play hard. |
our small clubs registration numbers are way up year over year, but that just means returning to 2019 levels. Mostly it looks like we're getting back kids who sat out this year |
Likely so - Familiar with conversations at a few clubs, and they are concerned that registration numbers are down. There seem to be fewer kids trying to move to travel - probably related to eliminated/scaled down rec seasons over the last 3 seasons. Presumably there is more competition for the existing pool of customers, which probably means more advertising. |
| Pipeline is claiming super high numbers for ulittles this week. I would expect most clubs would see more kids at the youngest levels since some families probably were hesitant to move to to club soccer with covid this year. |
| I also wonder if there is more people switching clubs this year because maybe they sat out a year, or didn't like how their club handled it, or like a lot of things post covid, people are re-evaluating their lives and making big changes. Maybe they don't want to drive so far to fields, or some kids realized they just want to play with their friends. |
| The numbers are down across the board. Less kids are coming out for tryouts and higher drop rate for existing players. Big clubs should be fine, smaller one maybe not. |
| I can see an increase in Rec soccer as parents want to get their COVID-overweight kids in sports. |
How do you know tryout numbers for different clubs? |
