Way to go, FCCPS! First vaccination day for students 12+ (with parental permission, obviously) will be May 21. Second vax will be June 11. Three cheers to whomever did the logistical heavy lifting to get these events on the books. This parent is grateful! |
Guess the % that sign up? I am thinking between 30 % (per US survey that just came out) to 50% (given this area has higher rates for vaccination). |
We were just lined up and given shots at school. All those decades ago. |
Way to go FCCPS and Noonan! |
That’s awesome. |
Yup. Kudos to FCCPS! |
Why haven’t they done this for annual flu shots as well? |
Anyone know how this will work? We will get details later, according to the interest form, but it would be nice to know the hours to see if it can be fit into parent’s work schedules if they have to be present. It’s a nice gesture either way. Now that shots are readily available everywhere I will schedule DC for the most convenient for the family, wherever that may be. |
Parents don't have to be there, but do have to give permission in advance. The 21st is during the school day. The second shot will be more tough for kids who can't get to school on their own. |
Thank you. We decided to stick with the county vaccination site and booked an appointment for earlier that same week on Tuesday evening so we could get a time and be there and so DS could stay home Wednesday. It worked out and we don’t have to wait for the sign up. |
I think the percentage of 12+ who get vaxxed in FCC will be much higher than 30%, but lots of parents have already gotten their 16 -18 year olds vaxxed already. And I know a lot of parents who have appointments for their 12-15 already. |
I’ll play. I’m guessing 10% sign up because FCC is so pro-vaccine. Many will want their 12-15 children vaccinated on the first possible day and already have appointments. Most of the 16+ crowd has already been vaccinated. |
You mean 100%? It will definitely be more than 10 %. |
No. I’m guessing 10% of eligible families go to the clinic because 90% of eligible students 16 and over already got at least one shot by 5/21. No one else wants to guess? You are not fun people. |
I know what you are saying. Everyone I know is super eager! I, along with many of my friends, signed up for clinics this week anticipating the approval. I ended up cancelling my daughter's appointment for tomorrow when they announced the FCCPS clinic. I wasn't confident the clinics that were set up for 16 and older would necessarily pivot to being able to serve kids. There is another thread on DCUM saying that people have had their appointments cancelled. I felt like the FCCPS clinic was a sure thing so I cancelled the appointment. Anyway, long story short, I'm going with 60% of eligible students (ages 12-16) will go to the FCCPS clinic and the other 35% will self-schedule. I'm going with 5% no vaccine, |
