Low-income childcare provider and resources - MoCo/Rockville/Kensington

Hi,
I'm trying to help my nanny find childcare for her 2-yo. Her MIL has been doing it for the last two years, but is returning to her home country. Our nanny makes more than her husband who works as a butcher in a grocery store (and yes, we pay her between $20-$30/hr so its a living wage). He wants her to stay home and care for baby while he works. Needless to say, that doesn't make a lot of sense financially for the family. I'm trying to help her think through options. Regardless, she probably won't be able to continue working with our family since we tend to need evening help with older kids. But, if she could find childcare, she could find a family needing help during those hours.

Any suggestions on places to look or other resources that may be available?

Or, maybe try some of the local churches, or Monday Morning Mon's.

It may make more sense for her to stay home if child care is more than she earns.

Yes, that was the first option I offered. She doesn't want to.

She should definitely look into vouchers which they very well may qualify for, based on their income - the limit is higher than you may think. Also look for in-home providers. In that area you can find some providers for under $300 per week.

https://locate.marylandfamilynetwork.org/Family/login - search on a map for providers, they even have cost information for some as well as whether they accept vouchers.

Both the websites above will tell you the provider's Excel's rating (1-5, 5 is the highest quality rating, not all providers participate but those that take vouchers have to)

Have her look for in-home providers. My baby went to a wonderful provider in Silver Spring who only charged $250 a week. She has moved away but you can find something for $300-325 per week, especially if the kid is potty trained.
