Virginia’s Governors Race

If you are not voting for McAuliffe, who are you voting for and why?

Yes I saw that thank you. But I specifically want to know why people are voting for a specific candidate. No one in that thread actually says why. I am torn between McClellan and Carroll Foy. I’m generally a progressive (voted for Bernie in the primaries) though I am more moderate on some issues. I am leaning towards McClellan. Would love to hear the arguments for both. I realize that Carroll Foy is the progressive pick.

McAuliffe is absolute scum. And that’s literally the kindest thing I can say about him.

No idea who I’m voting for, I just know who I’m NOT voting for.

I like Blanding's message on police reforms the best but she has no chance.

I'd take either McClellan or Foy but prefer McClellan. McClellan supports universal childcare. That would do wonders for Virginia families.

McAuliffe although I agree he seems kind of slimy. The other Ds seem to far left for me when I glanced at them a bit ago. Willing to take a second look at someone if that sounds wrong.

Not sure who I’m voting for. It’s not McAuliffe even though he’ll probably win. Not Fairfax either or Carter. Will probably be McClellen or Foy but not sure who yet. Foy seems to be leaning into identity politics too much which I don’t like.

Candidate that will reverse VMPI's changes to curriculum. They have currently walked back the worst of the changes, but they might change again after the election. Glenn Youngkin said he would fire them all, so that's my candidate.

I am voting for McClellan even though I know McAuliffe will probably win.

I never really liked him, dating back to the time when he was an extremely partisan fundraiser in the Clinton days. I will admit he was better as Governor than I anticipated, but he's still about as genuine as a two-dollar bill. He looks at polls and Tweets and comes out with seemingly progressive positions, but he also lives in a very segregated part of McLean, where the local politicians do everything they can to keep it that way.

McClellan has been in the state legislature for over a decade. She seems sincere to me. I heard her speak at one event, and she was thoughtful and gracious. Her policies seem aligned with those of the Biden Administration. Not as frenetic as McAuliffe, but that's OK.

The other candidates don't appeal to me. Lee Carter is a radical socialist with the maturity of your typical teenager; Jennifer Carroll Foy is running a campaign based almost entirely on her own race and gender, not issues; and Justin Fairfax has not managed to extricate himself from the past allegations of sexual misconduct.

^ Just to add, I'm referring to the D primary. If Glenn Youngkin got the R nomination, I would consider him, but that seems unlikely. The other R candidates - Snyder, Chase, and Cox - are all too Trumpy for me, although obviously Chase takes it to a whole different level.

Have any of them said anything about dedicating resources to northern virginia traffic? I was really disappointed with Terry McAuliffe for not doing more to get our traffic problems solved.

You are a fool but, more likely, just a bot. No one is stupid enough to vote for governor based on a draft math curriculum proposal. We have to elect someone who will win and keep anti-democratic Republicans from taking over.

If the choice is between McAuliffe and a republican, then I’m just staying home.

None of them excites me. Wish there was a moderate Democrat.
