When will DC update the travel policy?

My kids' school requires us to attest that we are in compliance with the DC travel policy, meaning we can't travel outside of the DMV unless we quarantine for 3-5 days and take a test before returning to school. We'd like to visit family over memorial day in NJ. Rates are down, vaccinations are up and there has been no change to the policy to reflect that. Any sense of when they will change to a different policy?

New Jersey's at 30.3 new cases per day per 100,000 residents; D.C. is less than half that, at 12.2/100,000 residents. I'm not sure New Jersey will definitely be off the travel quarantine list when they do update things.

That's interesting information but when does DC update its travel policy? Last one I saw was from April 5. Many things have changed (for better or worse) in that time.

It’s a lot easier to just tell people what they want to hear than it is to comply with these ridiculous, erroneous policies these morons come up with.

They want to hear you say “no, I haven’t been anywhere”.

So that’s exactly what you should tell them.

They don't have a set update schedule anymore, I don't think -- they hadn't updated it for a few weeks before April 5.

Or you can actually comply with the rules, even if it's sort of inconvenient, which is what we did when we visited family out of town last weekend -- meant we had to stick our kid back into an all-remote class for two days and get some tests. Was it a pain? Yes. Was it the end of the world? No. Why do you get to decide that (a) the rules don't apply to you because you think they're dumb and (b) lying to the authorities to cover it up is okay?

NJ just reported its lowest transmission rate since the pandemic began so I am hoping DC updates its list soon:

The statewide transmission rate plummeted to 0.63, down from 0.72 a day earlier. The state had never before reported a rate below 0.7 during the pandemic. Any number under 1 indicates that the outbreak is slowing and each new case is leading to less than one additional case.

Generally, the D.C. list has been based on new cases per day per 10,000 or 100,000 residents, not on transmission rates, and it's been super-conservative, which is why only 15 jurisdictions besides Maryland and Virginia don't require post-visit quarantine. I agree it's annoying, as is the lack of any real estimate of when they'll be updating the list.

NP. You guys ask your kids to lie? We shouldn't have to do that. Mine absolutely know where their grandparents live (not the DMV) and would blab accordingly. We plan to wait until the summer where we will only have daycare to worry about. In that case *we* the parents will lie and say we were back for the requisite 3-5 days before taking a test, when in reality we will probably go get a same-day PCR test on the way back into town. But I'm not about to ask my 4yo to say we were in VA when we were in fact in NY.

The real question is when will they say this doesn’t apply to vaccinated people (including my high schooler). He wouldn’t have to quarantine after exposure so why does he have t quarantine after travel with no known exposure?

I understand precautions but that’s illogical.

When the mayor and city govt allows thousands of people to come into the city for protests and speeches (last August for the MOW anniversary, for example) without enforcing the 14-day quarantine rule that was in effect at the time, then I’m under no obligation whatsoever to comply with the same rules because I went to FL for a week.

If thousands of people get a pass to attend a protest or commemoration, then I grant myself the same pass.
