Just wondering. Please state your HHI, the make of the car, whether you bought it new or used and how long you’ve held on to it and why. I will start.
HHI- $220k Toyota Corolla - bought new in 2013 and still have it |
|
HHI $210k
2012 Honda Civic bought used in 2015 2013 Ford Escape bought new Plan to keep both another 5 years. Neither is over 100k miles yet and both are problem free. When repairs start taking up time and mental energy, we will look into shopping for another vehicle. Former cars were 13 and 11 years old when we traded them in. |
| HHI $1M. Keep them as long as they are still fun and useful. Often 10 years or more. |
| HHI 250K. Drove last car for 17 years. As long as they are still dependable and meeting our space needs, we keep them. |
|
About the same HHI as you.
I’ll normally drive the car to about 225k miles. That’s when they tend to really need repairs or Their just done giving their useful life. But I drive a lot. The back up car gets minimal use. It’s 12 years old and will Probably go for another 20 years before it needs replacement. Basically I’ll drive it till it throws a rod. |
|
HHI 315k
One car almost 18 years, the other 10. Keeping them until the next repair isn’t worth spending the money. |
|
HHI $270
Honda CRV - 2011. Will likely buy a new (used) car next year as our oldest will be starting to drive. So an upgrade for safety. |
|
HHI 750k +
2008 CRV 60k miles Love it and will drive it til it falls apart |
| We drive cars until they stop. We expect at least 200K miles. |
| 'Til deat do us part. |
|
750k.
2 “luxury” cars bought new in 2006 and 2010. Low mileage for their ages and have had no problems with them yet. Will replace when simple maintenance is no longer enough. |
| Per omnia saecula saeculorum. |
|
HHI $220K
2012 Honda CRV has 135,000 miles 2007 Honda Element has 100,000 miles Will drive both until they die (I'm hoping that's 5-7 years), then probably buy another used CRV or maybe an Acura MDX |
| I base it on mileage not age. My 2010 GLK 350 has 48K miles on it. At this rate, I should have it another ten years or more. Looking forward to getting something electrical at that point. |
Have you had any big repairs? I was planning to drive my last vehicle (a 2011) in the same manner, but I didn’t want to pay for an $800 transmission repair at around 125,000 miles. |
