That was quite the site. |
Remember Don Rockwell? |
yes! |
Whatever happened to the site ? It was fun to read... |
There was one person in particular who was known for posting on Don Rockwell and Chowhound DC who was a total pretentious @ss. I mean, there were several, but this one took the cake. Had the same screen name for both sites. |
Eh, it's still around, sort of. Was bought by CNET then eventually by CBS and barely resembles it's original self. There have been probably a dozen or more spin off boards formed when yet another mass exodus would take place. I followed egullet for awhile but never got around to composing the personal statement needed to join. ![]() https://www.latimes.com/food/la-fo-chowhound-20151010-story.html |
I was gonna say, yeah you'd have to narrow that down a bit more. |
Seriously. They were pretty much all like that.
Word was that Don Rockwell was kinda creepy in person. |
Individual forums faded away with the rise of Facebook and Instagram. I used to be quite active on a number of them, and they’ve gone the way of the dodo bird. |
LOL I know, I know. But this was, like, THE one. |
I didn’t realize it had died. It often had helpful suggestions for where to eat when traveling out of town. With the death of things like zagat, I find it really hard to know where to eat when traveling. If you look at Yelp, you end up with a five star Chipotle. I hate Yelp.
|
I use Eater to look up places when traveling |
Ha ha, I was rather fond of him actually. Seemed like he knew his restaurants. He had a very unusual day job as well I gathered from all his posts. |
Are you talking about the roller coaster guy? |
God chow hound was so useful. Back in the day when we thought the internet was going to be useful for average people to share interesting opinions, until it was taken over and coopted by billionaires, corporations, and foreign governments to shape messaging and corrupt democracies. For money. |
