What’s wrong with Ashburn?

Why do so many on DCUM look down on Ashburn? It has great schools, beautiful houses, amenities, and it’s a quick 20-25 min from downtown DC. It has it all!

I think you had a typo--unless it's 2am on Christmas Eve, You aren't getting to DC in 20-25 minutes. More like 70-90. I do it every single day from Ashburn Farms leaving at 6am.

+1. Commute still matters.

About 30 min from Ryan Rd to Kalorama. You should try it.

I live in Ashburn, and I'm content here, but I won't pretend the commute to DC is 20 minutes.

It is 40 minutes right now on a Sunday afternoon using the Greenway/Toll Road. Add in another hour for regular weekday traffic.

In Covid, you could do this easily in 35-40. The Greenway / Toll Road are fast.

Private helicopters not allowed to land in downtown DC.
By car under 60mins would be a miracle during rush hour - under 90mins possible.
Ask me how I know...

In fact, Google shows it as 34 min right now.

We lived in Ashburn before moving inside the beltway. We sacrificed our larger home out there for a smaller one here. No regrets.

The traffic was worse. It takes 45 minutes - 1 hour with no traffic to get from Ashburn to DC. There is no way to avoid all the traffic signals you have to go through in order to get to the main roads. Ugh.

Location absolutely matters. Too damn far to get from Ashburn to DC or even Tysons. Live where you work is the best mantra. Otherwise you sacrifice time from your family and your sanity

Because location matters and old growth trees are nice.

I live there but none of my neighbors commute to dc. They commute to Dulles, Reston or maybe tysons.

I think Ashburn is lovely! However, we went with MoCo even though DH was commuting to Arlington. Much less of a nightmare commute!
I mean still a terrible commute, but Ashburn is like a shoot yourself in the head kind of crazy commute to DC and even to Rosslyn.

Aren't those toll roads insanely expnesive?
