Gardening today, I keep finding small globs of dirt in cylinder-like form. There are rather large 1 inch or so holes on one side. Any idea what these are?
Cicadas
Did someone aerate your lawn?
Was the area aerated at some point?
Yes early cicadas.
LOL
|
Found these and the holes they came from last weekend. I assumed they are the first cicadas emerging.
May the odds be ever in our favor! |
I have seen these too!
Def cicada holes. If you haven’t seen a brown squirmy cicada yet, I invite you to turn over some rocks near by.
If the area where you’re seeing the burrows is always damp it could be a crayfish burrow
Lol it’s cicadas
PP again. But I love the idea that some crayfish might emerge instead
|
Thanks. I wondered if it was cicadas and if I should just throw them in with the bag of spent flowers for pick-up. I guess my days mucking around at the base of my camellia bushes are limited. When do you think they will be here?
so the cicadas are aerating out lawns! awesome
Yupp cicadas. I get these every year and have already gotten a ton of them around my lawns. I anticipate a bombardment around us of cicadas once we hit peak
