Questions about Arlington ECNL girl's team

Anonymous
My daughter is doing tryout for Arlington ECNL team.
I am worrying about traveling to Arlington practice because we live near Bethesda. Is the traffic bad usually? Now the traffic is not bad maybe because of Covid.
I am not sure joining Arlington is worth it because we need to waste so much time on the street. Bethesda ECNL is a good option but my daughter does not like Bethesda.

Traffic will be brutal once things go back to normal.

NOVA and traffic are synonymous. That is why you live here. You love living in the ant farm. Admit it.

^^^^^^

So true. We did it for a year with our son, driving from Bethesda area to Arlington. We went back to Bethesda. The driving was way too much.

Just move your DD to Liz’s team. It will save you a lot of unnecessary driving time.

Thanks for all your answer. We might need to give up ECNL team....It is too bad there are not many ECNL teams in Maryland.

Why bother? FCV has better coaching, promotion, college placement and is superior in every way

Has Arlington given out ECNL offers yet?

Arlington is 30-40 minutes in traffic from Bethesda. Don't forget that once on GWP, you are going against traffic until you hit Key Bridge and by then, you are 5 minutes from the field.

Mclean is also an option. Obviously, Bethesda is closest. Just do the tryout. If you get an offer, you will have a few drives to test the 30-40 minute drive prediction.

We did this commute. It’s hell. No other way to describe it. We went back to Bethesda.

Arlington has terrible traffic and their practice fields are all over the place. You can practice near the airport one day, and practice in Northern Arlington another day. Just get in your car and try to drive to a couple of their practice locations, you will get a pretty good idea of your potential commute.

For us, it varied between 45-70 minutes one way depending on timing of practice and the practice location. Sometimes it was worse if there was an accident or just one of those random days when traffic is really bad for no apparent reason. We only did this for one season. It just wasn’t worth it.

You should safely assume that each practice will probably be 3:45 to 4 hours out of your evening. 90 min practice, arrive 15 minutes early, and the rest driving time and waiting for kids to get to the car after their usual lollygagging after practice. Plus, you have to stay in the area during practice since there is no way to drive home while the kids practice.
