How easy to switch elementary schools in Fairfax county?

My son goes to a great daycare. It also offers before and after school care for elementary school aged children, with a bus service to about a half-dozen area elementary schools. It does not have a bus service to our neighborhood elementary school, so we'd have to request an exception for him to attend one of the other ones. How hard is this? Are these types of applications usually accepted?

Child care hardship has to be notarized, and there has to be room at the school you want to transfer to, but it is possible.

thanks for asking this! We'll be in the same boat if I don't move before then - my daughter's assigned elementary school is just fine, and it's walking distance from our house. But I've heard SACC can be hard to get, and it would be nice to have her do before-and-after-school care at her current daycare if I could get her into the other elementary school.

Our local Fairfax County ES just told us that it is getting harder and harder to go out of bounds and that a childcare situation like you described is not generally accepted.

I was surprised to hear this, as I thought it was easy if the school had room.
