Lemon cake: lemon or vanilla frosting?

Making a birthday cake. The cake is lemon. New recipe so I don't know how lemony it comes out but the batter is pretty lemony.

Vanilla or lemon buttercream?

If the recipient is into lemon, go with lemon icing too! You can always dial is down a little in the icing, but I think it balances so well with the sweetness of cake and icing that "too much lemon" is almost not a thing.

Lemon glaze would be good. Is this like a lemon pound cake type thing? Or like a lemon flavored betty crocker box cake?

Thanks! I was leaning towards lemon but when I tasted the batter I wondered if I needed more banance.

The bday boy loves lemon. Happily sucks on plain lemon if I let him. So I guess for him it wouldn't be overdoing it!

Not a pound cake. A round cake, supposed to be nice and light but again, I haven't made it before. Not a box mix.

If you have the time, consider making a lemon curd and putting that between the layers but using vanilla buttercream. I think that would be delicious.

Agree. Make a lemon glaze. Look up Barefoot Contessa’s recipe.

That was my first plan! But I'm making it while working and that's one step too many

I totally get you. Well my vote would be for vanilla buttercream but I recognize I have been out numbered.
