Summer Camps in Switzerland

Anonymous

I'd like to send DC to summer camp in Switzerland (I love the mountains and the lakes, and hope DC can learn some German)- but don't know how to choose a camp. Growing up, I went to summer camp in France (I'm from the EU so it was just a train ride away) but that was always arranged through my school's college counselor. Now that I am states-side and my DC is in elementary school, I don't know how to go about looking for a camp. Does anyone have any tips or summer boarding camp recommendations in Switzerland?

Thank you!

Does DC want to go?

Can I ask why you want your child to learn German if you already speak French? Our kids have an opportunity to learn German but it seems that there are better languages to learn.

I went to the Leysin camp (tennis) and had a great time! I was an older teen when I went.

If you want to prep your kid with German prior to international camp, Concordia Language Villages could be a great stepping stone. (I went to French camp starting after 2nd grade and went for many summers—loved it!)

How is a kid going to learn German in Switzerland? Swiss German isn’t very practical to know, no one is going to understand you outside of the Alpine regions.

I don't think it matters much to be honest though, it's just a preference...At the end of the day, everyone ends up speaking English but I like knowing multiple languages.

I was coming here to type this. However, if the ability to learn proper German - I'd go for it.

There are worse fates than being stuck in the Alpine region

That's a valid point though. But it's okay. DC speaks our mother tongue with such a ridiculous accent that I'm callous to any deformities of elocution.
