We are moving back to the DMV area, we are not sure where yet. I would love to be in dc, whereas my husband would prefer Bethesda or Fairfax.
My 9-year-old daughter adores dance and is really talented, she is currently at an incredible studio that allows her to participate in both top-tier competitive dance (TDA, star quest, etc..) and get an amazing ballet education and compete at YAGP. I have told her that as she gets older and training hours increase she will probably need to focus on either competition dance or ballet but are there any studios in the area that would allow her to do both and get a strong education in both? I have recommendations for AXIS for a competitive dance studio, and TWBS for ballet... I know we sound crazy thinking about this before we move and choose where to live but my DD lives to dance and I want her to have that normalcy throughout this. |

The Washington School of Ballet does not send its dancers to YAGP.
Akhmedova and Maryland Youth Ballet (both in Silver Spring) both have had multiple regional winners and NYC finalist in the past few years. They both focus on classical ballet but have supplementary modern and jazz (MYB also has African.) Neither compete in contemporary competitions. Same goes for Kirov, though they are in SE DC and focus solely on classical and are (based on personal experience) incredibly difficult to deal with. My own DC is at MYB and we are very happy. Another that you may consider is City Dance DC (located in Rockville.) City Dance is home to a male dancer won YAGP Grand Prix twice and was on Little Big Shots on NBC. Good luck! |
