Has anyone gotten financial aid for soccer, from Stoddert or somewhere else?

Can you tell me how much you got, and what the process was?

Is it just based on your tax forms?

Some clubs save the financial aid for the more talented kids that are less fortunate. If you're just an average kid it isn't worth it to them to put you on scholarship.

Thanks, I think I saw on the Stoddert website that the forms are due before tryouts, whereas at Bethesda you apply after you make the team and deposit. I don’t really get how you can make a decision without knowing but maybe they are waiting to see how talented the kid is.

I got Nike to sponsor my kid. Was kind of protracted process though - not sure I'd recommend it. Plus he has to wear Nike clothes and shoes all the time even when he's not playing. Plus some of the Nike corporate folks are a little bit different to put it mildly.

My kids play at a club in Fairfax county. If you’re eligible for free and reduced meals at school, you’re eligible for scholarship. I think that means no soccer fees and you just pay team fees (tournament fees $200-400/year) and uniform costs ($150 ish every other year). I’m not sure if it’s a 100% scholarship or something less than that on the travel fees because I’m not eligible

Thanks! Our tax forms (which is what I think we need to submit) show that our income last year was below the reduced meal threshold last year. We're not in Fairfax, but that does make me a little more optimistic that we'd be eligible.

Is this for travel? or just rec? Does this apply to all Fairfax County clubs?

I am the OP and I don’t know anything about Fairfax. I am asking about Stoddert when I say they ask for tax forms, and there it applies to all levels.

The PP said the fee leaves hundreds of dollars of tournaments. In my experience that would mean not rec.
