| Does anyone know what’s happening with Physicians for Women in Alexandria? I got a letter in the mail a few days ago saying the practice is closing in August, and then I got a call today canceling my 8 week confirmation ultrasound on Wednesday because they’re not taking new pregnancies. Obviously I made the appointment prior to all of this, and I implored the woman who called to let me come in for this one appointment and I’ll take my records and go elsewhere. She said they couldn’t do that and transferred me to a voicemail that would certainly never get returned. Considering I’m 35, 8 weeks pregnant, and have had 2 miscarriages, I find it very shitty that they’d cancel my appointment 3 business days out. They’re also requiring me to come pick up my records. |

The practice is dissolving.
Get your records and find a new practice. |
Yes, I am aware the practice is dissolving. Dr. Hibshman is apparently moving out of the area, but I’m wondering where everyone else is going. |
...also, I’m dumbfounded by the blatant disregard for patient care. Canceling appointments last minute has left many women (including me, and I happed to be high-risk) scrambling to find a new provider. They should have just kept the appointments that had already been made to allow people some time to get their records and go elsewhere. There must be something seriously broken there. |

Yes that is crappy. Sorry OP.
You may want to email the doctor directly. If you are an established patient and are within 30 days of the letter, they are obliged to see you. (I assume that you are as you stated you need to pick up records). Technically, you are not a new pregnancy as the pregnancy has not been confirmed. You are someone with amenorrhea and the work up would be to rule in or out the pregnancy. That being said, I kind of agree with “pick up your records and go elsewhere,” so you can get the special care you deserve. Also, congrats on the positive test. |
Thank you so much. This is excellent. |

They are probably having staffing issues. Nurses leaving to start new jobs, front office people quitting, billing people leaving. Everyone who is not moving needs to start a new job elsewhere. So it makes sense that they stop seeing patients. I am.sure they knew that 3 or 4 weeks ago when you called to make the appointment and they should have told you then..so that sucks but maybe they thought staff would stay until the end of this month and people.left earlier than expected?
Sorry? Hope you can find someone soon. The VHC docs were great and not that far from Alexandria. |
