Hi ladies,
For those who did DE IVF, did you do PGS testing on the blasts or did you forgo that option. My understanding is that SG discourages DE PGS, meanwhile CCRM recommends it. Thankful for any insight. Thanks again! |
| I did pgs testing with the embryos. Really needed it. SG discourages it but it gave me peace of mind |
How many rounds of DE ivf did it take for you it to be successful? |
| I was at SG. I didn’t do PGS testing. First DE transfer failed, second embryo from the same batch too. Healthy full-term baby. |
| Took not too. |
| I did it in part because I was doing it anyway on my own embryos. In any case it made a big difference in selecting the best blastocyst (there was only 1 euploid blastocyst out of the five DE blastocysts.) Also 2 of the aneuploidies in the DE blastocysts were survivable ones (trisomy 21 and XYY). Pregnant with FET of the euploid embryo. I’m sure I was spared lack of success, miscarriage or a difficult decision by doing PGS. |

We did not. Dr. did not recommend it. We had 13 embryos. 1st was an ectopic. 2nd BFN. 3rd transfer resulted in healthy pregnancy and now 3 year old!
Good luck. |
| This is immensely helpful. DE ivf can be immensely expensive so just trying to weigh our options. This can be such a blessing but it’s so stressful! |
| It's easy for me to talk because the extra cost of testing my PGS embryos was only $250 making the decision easy, but I would say that given that I was paying out of pocket for everything and that CCRM is expensive - even avoiding one failed transfer would have saved enough money to cover the full cost of PGS testing. Of course that could be different for you depending on clinic cost and insurance coverage. By the end of the process I actually questioned the wisdom of testing my embryos (only 1-2 blastocysts per cycle) especially after I read that PGS testing can lower live pregnancy rates for older women. It seemed that PGS testing is more "worth" it when you have lots of embryos because it helps you select the best one. (With only 1-2 embryos per cycle there is no cost savings to PGS testing and it cost more time than just doing a fresh cycle or likely even a non tested frozen cycle. |
| I did pgs. My clinic recommended it for extra peace of mind. |
| We did not test. We just purchased a lot of eggs (8) and ended up with two high quality blasts. First transfer was an early miscarriage, but testing of the miscarriage showed it was healthy (and male, so it wasn't my DNA). Second transfer worked. So it wouldn't have helped us. The first blast would have come back normal and would have been transferred. |
| I did not use donor eggs, but was 35 when I did my egg retrieval. I chose testing because I wanted to limit (well, TRY to limit because as many of us have found out, nothing in fertility is predicable) the heartache of failed transfers and the cost and time of doing multiple transfers. Each transfer costs thousands and involves a few weeks of estrogen followed by a month of injections. My RE felt strongly that testing would increase chances of an embryo sticking and the relatively low cost made it worth it. Also my clinic saved all embryos, even those that are determined to be abnormal after testing, meaning, if technology or our understanding of chromosomal abnormalities changes in the future, they are still there for me to choose what to do with. Just my opinion, but I think it comes down to cost and your tolerance for the potential of multiple transfers or negative pregnancy tests. I know donor eggs typically come from younger women, but I imagine there is still a good number of embryos that will not duplicate DNA correctly at any age. |
| We used frozen DE at SG and received a batch of 7 eggs. I chose not to test because we only got 2 blasts. The first didn’t work but the second did. If I was doing fresh and got more than 3 embryos then I would have tested. |
| we did not. we went to SG. i was not optimistic and neither was SG b/c the embryos weren't growing as quickly as they were supposed to, but my baby morula is now 5. worked on the 2nd cycle. good luck! |

We only did IVF bc 2 of my 3 pregnancies ended in TFMR. Long story short, we got very few blasts, and no normal ones. We moved on to donor egg after four rounds.
We got 3 blasts from 7 eggs. I badly wanted to do PGS, but given the donors age and profile, we didn’t test. The first didn’t take. Our second transfer is now a 2yo girl. I got maternit21 test at 11w and all was well. |
