WTH Arlington?!

In case you weren't sure that Arlington specific caters to developers, here's a fun little zoning item on the board agenda this week. It's a fairly specific bit they are trying to push through quietly so they can double the height of redeveloping 3 story Marbella Apartments from a 60 ft limit to a 120 ft limit. That's a big difference to the neighbors!

For this agenda item, Arlington met it's public disclosure requirement by posting two notices in the WASHINGTON TIMES in March. How many people in Arlington read the Washington Times? None, right? WTF? Meanwhile, all of the affordable housing developers were reached out to directly in January for their personal input. This is so shady and it's totally going to pass.

Here it is in the Washington Business Journal on March 22: https://www.bizjournals.com/washington/news/2021/03/22/arlington-affordable-projects-height.html

Could you please explain why you think the new building shouldn't be allowed to be that tall?

That's behind a paywall - not public notice. I'm not sure if I oppose this particular project going higher or not since I just found out about it yesterday. I'm pissed that the county would go ask developers for input on changes to zoning requirements with multiple months notice but try to fly under the radar for those directly impacted by the decision.
