We are coming to visit family in DC for spring break and will be staying in a hotel for a week. There are so many choices-I thought someone who lives there might have a good recommendation. We want something with clean and spacious rooms, maybe a pool and within an easy walk of the metro. A kitchenette would be excellent! Also-wifi. We have a 7 year old. Internet searches yield so many results it's hard to figure out what is really a good place to stay. We cannot spend a fortune but want to stay somewhere nice enough to not mind being there for a week.Your suggestions are welcome! Thank you!

There is a brand new Courtyard by Marriott at the New York Avenue Metro stop. You literally walk out of the station and are beside the hotel. It has a pool and I believe it has suites. I live here so I haven't stayed in it. But it's such a great location that it might be worth it for you to consider. After you look at the hotel, you can go to www.wmata.com and see the metro map to get an idea of where it is in relation to places you may want to visit. The only thing I will say is that unless the hotel has good restaurants, the only food in the area is Five Guys, fast food and Au Bon Pain. But, you would be just a short metro ride away from some good restaurants.

Embassy Suites have properties right on top of the metro at Friendship Heights and Old Town Alexandria. They seem to meet all your criteria. FH is basically a big mall, so you'd have to metro everywhere to see something interesting but everything is close. OT is a few blocks from the "main" part of OT, but that area is charming. BIg plus is that both places are very safe.

I second the Embassy Suites in Old Town Alexandria. It is right across the street from the King Street Metro. Old Town is full of restaurants, and the city runs a free "trolley" (really a trolley-shaped bus) from the metro to the river that stops every two blocks along the way. There are playgrounds and quite a few good, kid-friendly restaurants in Old Town.

I recommend the Embassy Suites near Dupont Circle.

Also, there is a Marriott Residence Inn behind this (one street over) that would work too. I've stayed at both of these (prior to living here) and they are nice. Being right across the street from the 2 Metro lines (yellow and blue) is convenient to get into the District too. Hope you enjoy your trip here!

One Washington Circle Hotel in Foggy Bottom. It is close to Dupont and Georgetown as well. Most rooms are suites and have a kitchen, theres a pool, and its right near the foggy bottom/gwu metro. When we've stayed there they have had deals often including free parking. Its great for if you want to be near downtown.
