I am currently a State Department civil service employee and exploring childcare options for new-borns post-COVID. Does anyone have experience with DiploTots, particularly hours and cost? Is is impossible to get off the waitlist?
I am also considering taking a similar job at the Pentagon. Are civilian employees allowed to use their daycare? Am tempted by the greater availability of GS-14 and 15 jobs, as well as convenience to more affordable housing in Virginia. (That said, am very tempted if somewhat confused by DC's free Pre-K.) For those using on-site daycare, do you metro with your child or cross your fingers for a parking pass? Thank you in advance! |
OP here. One last question--if you use onsite daycare, can you breastfeed during the day? |
All of these facilitators have huge waitlists...no guarantees. Personally, I’d choose a daycare close to home. Similarly free PreK in DC is lottery based...no guarantees on a spot. |
My baby is in Diplotots. They accommodate me nursing daily, twice per day when we started. The hours aren’t amazing but it’s the same everywhere due to COVID. I have a parking pass.
If you’re expecting, at least get onto the waiting lists. |
If you’re looking at Pentagon positions, the closest DoD childcare center is Ft McNair, there is a waist list and military always has priority. |
