| DC is having a hard time deciding b/t Hopkins and Rice engineering for CS. Appreciate constructive feedback. |
| I'd go with Rice for sure unless your kid loves cutthroat competition and having no life outside of school. |
| Now if we add CMU Into the mix, would you still recommend Rice. DC is reserving CMU as the one of the final 2. |
| Still Rice. Have you visited all 3 schools? The students at JHU and CMU all looked pretty miserable to me. |
|
Rice is more laid back and better quality of life. CMU has better overall name recognition. But can still get really good internships and jobs coming from Rice.
Will be a big fish in a small pond at Rice and a small fish in a big pond at CMU. |
| Def Rice |
| Rice for sure. |
|
OP here, seems that Rice is overwhelming favorite. I would imagine kids at Rice are all super smart and driven. Is the academic environment just less cutthroat (as compared to JHU, where folks seem to think it is more harsh)?
We know CMU will require A LOT of hardworking and DC may be walking amongst prodigies. But is CMU just stiff competition vs. toxic ha competition? DC has visited CMU and JHU before COVID, but hasn't had a chance to see Rice. Again, thanks for your input. |
|
All this time and your DC still can't choose between these two? Didn't your DC have an order of preference?
BTW, Rice all the way. Much nicer location and a great school overall. |
| Depends on your kid. CMU is intense but the best for CS. Some kids would love it but others would hate it. I have one who thrives in that type of environment and one who would wither. |
| Stanford has a good CS program. |
| My kid did a sleepover visit at both JHU and Rice. Loved Rice and said students were super friendly and seemed fun. Hated JHU. Just one example of a personal experience so take it with a grain of salt. |
DC is a girl? |
I have a kid at Rice (not CS, sorry), and yes. Kids work really hard, but they're putting the pressure on themselves, not competing with each other. |
Are we just naming random school OP's kid didn't get into? Maybe next we can throw in schools that are great for English majors. |
