| Wonder if he thought it was all worth it or if he had regrets. |

just a reminder that DCUM has a standing policy of not speaking ill of the recently deceased. If you have nothing good to say please say nothing. I know that it will be difficult to adhere to this rule in this instance and it may well mean that this thread will be very short. However, I assume that even this individual -- about whom I personally have nothing to say -- had people who loved him.

| What was it worth in the end? His two sons died before him and his wife became a pariah. Death must have felt like a merciful release. |
| I met his wife about 10 years ago. She was really, really subdued, quietly shared her name with me to pick up something under her name. She was very sweet, a little jittery, and it was sort of wild meeting someone who went from riches to rags and in such a public manner. I wonder how she feels about his death. |
| Does the wife have anyone left? Do her grandchildren speak to her? |
|
Couldn't have happened to a better person. What a shame.

The last I read, she has a relationship with her grandchildren after she agreed to cut Bernie off. That was the requirement both sons put in place before their deaths, and presumably the DILs maintained it. The Madoff family story is a tragedy of Shakespearean proportions. So many victims, not least the sons. I am inclined to believe they honestly didn’t know. |
| The American Scandal podcast about him was really interesting. This happened before I owned stocks or paid any attention to investing, so I didn’t follow the details. As it turned out it wasn’t so much that he was stealing everyone’s money, it was that he was lying and telling them they had these crazy gains when it was all a total mirage. |
| Totally agree with Jeff. The man is dead. That is that- no need for ill will. |
|
Agree with you Jeff.
I feel for his family. |
| My brother was good friends with his son, Andrew. They met at college and lived in the same house. Andrew died of cancer a few years back (his older brother died of suicide that was the direct result of his father’s crimes). If there’s anything good to be said about Bernie it’s that he had two lovely children who both left this world too soon. I talked Andrew a few times (I was a preteen and thought he was so handsome) He was a really nice person to be chatty and kind to a preteen girl. I certainly hope his (Andrew’s) soul is at peace and that his family is at peace. |
| My best wishes are for all of Mark’s and Andrew’s children. I hope they are able to move on and live good lives. I believe some have changed their last names to avoid the association. They certainly deserve to be judged on their own merit. |
Then I have nothing to say, other than I am surprised this didn't make the bigger headline on CNN. Sitting at my computer working all day, I check there several times a day to make sure I didn't miss any major news happenings. His death is in a small buried article. I would have missed it, had I not seen this posted here. I have nothing else to say. |
