Pretty much everyone I know that is in Fairfax is going back 4 days, but their superintendent said it might not be all schools. I know our school in APS has empty classrooms so it seems like they could bring kids back for all 4 days, but I know other schools have high % of kids who picked hybrid.
SO with the caveat, that I know that all students deserve/need to be back. Should we go back if NOT all schools and students who chose hybrid can go back 4 days. I also realize that this isn't being proposed right now, so it is just a hypothetical. |
I would be pro doing this just because we need to keep norming higher expectations. Every step we go further along toward providing what these kids need, the harder it is for APS to roll it back. It becomes the new normal. |
Yes we should. But it will never ever happen. Because equity. So yet again we're failing all APS kids in the name of equity. |
I think it's crazy they aren't even trying to bring K-2 back at least. |
At risk kids or South Arlington - yes.
Whiny parents in the far north elementaries, no. |
Yes, absolutely!! Even if it isn’t the entire school, everyone who can go 4 days a week should. It would suck for the couple of schools/classes that can’t, but it isn’t any worse than what is happening now. I know our school has plenty of space and it sucks knowing their classrooms are sitting empty the other days. |
I mean we're back at 5 days a week in FCCPS. The other districts need to get their ish together. It's not like they didn't have all year to do this. |
My FCPS HS is not bringing back all hybrid kids 4 days a week.
I do think APS should do it like FCPS is. It doesn't make sense to have it be an all or nothing. |
K-2, yes. I do wonder if that's possible, though. For example, one grade has 2 virtual classes. The rest are hybrid and students switched teachers to align with their choice. The two virtual classes are down to less than 20 per class. The hybrid classes are larger, but I don't know how many more they can fit and still maintain spacing. They can't combine the remaining virtual into one class b/c that would be something like 35 kids. I just don't know if they have enough classrooms given that some of the hybrid classes are split between rooms to make spacing work. |
+1 |
yes this-- bring some back, then keep on bringing more back. Keep on getting creative and figuring it out. Stop the toss up our hands and saying its to hard. |
So you wouldn’t be angry if your kid’s friend was 4 days at Kilmer MS but your kid was 2 days at Longfellow because they have more room? |
OP here, yeah I mean it really would vary by school. We are at an immersion school on Tues/Wed our kinder classrooms are empty. The first grade classrooms aren't being used at all. Kids didn't switch teachers so K-2 teachers teach on a rotating schedule. They are with the in person kids and then rotate to the virtual kids (there used to be 2 in person and one virtual, so they had to rotate btwn 3 classes, but this week they combined they 2 in person). My other kid is in 3rd, I am not sure who uses their classroom when its not in use by them, but even if they could only bring k-2 back at our school. I think I would be okay with that, except older brother would be jealous. |
Please go read the FCPS forum. Lots of pissed off parents. |
FCPS schools going back 4 days/week for all are the equivalent of APS far north elementaries, if it matters. Not entirely, but it's a noted trend. |
