Private & Independent Schools
I have been trying to reach the AD at a particular school for quite some time as we moved during this process. Our telephone number and address changed which I knew would affect us hearing back from the school. I have sent countless emails and left numerous messages to no avail. Now here we are on Wednesday and we have no news about the status of my DD application. Would you just give up and take the lack of response as a clear sign that we were rejected? My DD keeps asking me about the results but I don't want to say anything until I see it in writing.
Odd. Which school? Did you leave a message with the secretary?
I don't want to say which school but they won't let you leave a message with the secretary. You have to leave a message on the AD's voice mail.

I'm sorry to hear your frustration.
Perhaps you can call and email someone else in the admissions office. Someone who is lower on the totem pole who may have more time. |
I actually would rather not say which school it is. You can not leave a message with the secretary. They transfer you to the AD's voice mail and you have to leave a message there.
Many schools have an assistant AD then an Admissions assistant as well. I would ask to speak with one of them next time.
I know they are extremely busy during this time, but I think that is rude not to at least return your calls or e-mails! Perhaps the AD's behavior is indication of the school's way of dealing with parents! This may be a blessing in disguise. Good to know this before they get your money! I would look elsewhere and later write a letter to the head of school about how you were treated!
Could you call the head of the school to which you are applying (lower, middle, upper)?
I know this is ridiculous but could you just swing by and pop into the office with a print out of your new address and phone number? Hopefully, at that point, you'll be able to ask if decisions have been made and get more info.
Maybe you should send the Admission's Director and any assistant in that office an email explaining your circumstance. One of them will get back to you.
This sounds like the process when we had a similar situation last year, so I think I know the school you mean. For us, it was just a matter of time - she called us back when things calmed down a bit. This is a ridiculously busy time for them.
I wuld be concerned that if I enrolled my child communitcation would be weak. I think I would leave a voice mail for the Head of school and tell them why you are no longer interested in sending your child to a school you cannot communicate with.
This is rude. Returning calls and email is part of the job. What are you putting in the subject line? Maybe finesse that and explain that your DD wants to know.
Try again tomorrow - take the high road and act like you hadn't placed all those calls and emails. If information is what you want, keep trying - if not place a call to the director of the school asking for a call back. Good luck

Ridiculously rude and unprofessional. I don't care how busy they are. This is their job.
If I were in your shoes, I wouldn't take the spot even if they gave my child a full ride... Well, maybe if they got a full ride... I would be seething if I were you. |
