How much does your DD or you spend on clothes per season?

How old is your DD? And what does the HH spend on clothes? Thanks - trying to understand what’s normal.

Mine is 18 and hasn't bought any clothes for a while now (a year or more)

That said, she went through a phase where she bought tons of clothes. Her closet was She's pretty fashionable (has good taste) but it isn't designer clothing.

It's actually helped in a few situations. (pre-covid) it always got her to Christmas and Easter mass, because she might see some old elementary school classmates there. It might be what gets her to go back to high school in person next week (it's optional and I know she'd rather stay home)

There's no such thing as 'normal'. It all depends on your family's finances unless your child's an adult and her own.

The majority of my tween daughter's clothes are hand-me-downs. I buy underwear, outerwear and shoes. My son requires nothing but a capsule wardrobe, as do I. I buy new LL Bean type things for him, but go to Poshmark for most of my clothes, to get decent quality at lower prices.

So... we don't spend a lot on clothes.

My 18-year-old dd stopped growing by eighth grade so hasn’t required new clothes for changing size in a long time. She mostly likes to pick things up at thrift stores which she does with her own money. I buy her new basics as needed (leggings, underwear etc.) but really her clothes budget is minimal.

It depends on so many factors - like how many things she's outgrown and what her current tastes are. But, I would venture to say that including sweatshirts we buy on trips and the like, it is less than $150 per season. If she needs a special outfit or a new winter coat, that could be more. Our HHI is $450k and my DD is 13.

Who are they handed down from?

I tried to figure out what would be reasonable, and it was a lot higher than I would have guessed.

I listed what she might need to replace in a year (although she has stopped growing taller, she will continue to fill out for a while). Then priced out what each would cost. Total, divide by 12, and you get a monthly budget.

Don't forget special occasion items (for homecoming, dinners out) when life returns to normal. And boring things like socks, undies, and bras.

Thanks to those of you who responded. I am curious about those with still growing DDs or those who like clothes.

For my 13yo, I probably spend a couple hundred a year on basics (not special occasion or shoes and outerwear). Her growing has slowed down a lot so I probably won’t need to buy much for a little while.

Two of my friends' daughters, and she also gets new clothes as gifts from grandparents.

My DD is 15. Most recently took her shopping for some items and spent about $250 or so. Usually I buy things throughout the year for her. We need to buy some new jean shorts for the summer so that will probably be another $100 or so (She likes the ones from American Eagle). Thankfully she got some bathing suits from Athleta for her birthday recently. Her breasts are now "woman-sized" so i spent about $100 or so at Soma when we had her measured. I'd guess I spend about $1000 over a year or so for her. She also spends her own money at thrift stores when she can go.
