My 12 yr old just got a phone and I'd like to see when he leaves a place, where he goes and the route he takes.
I'd LOVE a free product and am curious about the two products in the subject line. I'm open to others. What's in the free version if there is one? Does it last longer than a few weeks? What is the lowest cost plan? What do you like/dislike? Anything else i need to know/consider? The phone in question is a pixel 3. |
| I don't have specific recommendations, but do know generally that if something is free, it means you are the product. |
| Life360 works well. |
This. Plus, don't spy on your kids. |
It’s not spying on your kids. We have two busy parents with long commutes plus two teens (one drives) and two younger ones. Lots of crazy schedules including travel sports. It’s easy to check the app to see where someone is rather than calling or texting while they are driving. It’s also great to know when someone is near the grocery store or another location. |
Spying on your kids means putting a hidden camera or microphone in their room. |
This. When the entire family shares the app and can see where everyone is, that’s not spying. |
+1 DH and I both have it, too. We can all see each other. Comes in handy for meal times. Also, when my 12 yr old DD is out walking to the store, that's over a mile away, I like to keep an "eye " out on her. It's not about spying. It's about safety. |

Life360
We all have it, and it also will tell you about driving habits. SPeeding, braking, phone use. Crash protection. Think you have to pay for those features, but minimal. It's worth it when your kids get older, even when they're riding with others--parents. I'm shocked by how fast some people drive. Not letting my kid drive with someone who is going 90 mph. WTF. |
| We've had Life360 for many years now and it has been great for our family- even as the older kid went to college. None of us see it as spying, more for safety, security and convenience. |
| This is convenient for a child who is out alone or does a lot of activities. This weekend DD was coming from a game in Baltimore and I could tell when she left her game so I could start dinner. |
We use Life360 and it's great. I can see where my son is, when he's walking to where I'm parked to pick him and his brother from school (because god forbid I come meet them at school and embarrass him, lol! and he can see my location also). I can also see where he is when he is with his dad. |
| They can also see when I'm running late for pick up like if I hit traffic so they don't have to keep calling and asking where are you? |
| we also use life 360 and for all the reasons stated above, it's great to just see how far your kid is away from home, where they are, etc. We also have it for the whole family. My kid also uses it when I'm on my way home from work - he'll call when I'm close to home to tell me to pick something up or asking if we could do something when I get home. He's 11 |
| Just share location. |
