There was a recent recommendation of these two CSA-type produce delivery services on the DCUM Listserve. I'm considering signing up and wanted to see if anyone has used either of them and how the quality of the produce is. Any other recommendations are welcome.
Thanks! |
| We use Green Grocer. The quality is wonderful. I've only had bad lettuce once, it was kind of limp. |

I have been getting deliveries from Green Grocer for about 2 months now. The quality has been excellent. I try to wash/properly store the lettuce within a few days of it being delivered, and I kid you not, some of it has lasted for THREE WEEKS this way - perfectly fresh, green, and crisp.
Their customer service is excellent, and what I like about them is that you don't have to commit to a delivery every week. If you still have produce coming out your ears from the previous delivery, you don't have to schedule a delivery for that week. You can also substitute items. For example, if the box for the week contains carrots and you don't like carrots, you can sub it out for double of any other item that's in the weekly box. You can add other things like onions, fresh herbs, etc. You can also add dairy and bread, but those are pretty expensive so I haven't tried them. |
| 21:25 here - you can manage your Green Grocer account 100% from their website, which is very user friendly. |
| I love Washington Green Grocer too. |
| OP here. Thanks everyone. Green Grocer sounds great - I'm going to sign up today. |

We used to order from Green Grocer. I never had good experience with any of the greens. Limp on arrival. Maybe that was because our delivery day was Thursday and we aren't home during the day.
Getting the Green Grocer delivery did get us to expand our repertoire of fruits and vegetables. The one thing I had trouble with was that a small box had enough for the three of us, but not enough variety. I like green beans, but not every night for a week. |
| I'm one of the PP's and your comment about the greens is very surprising to me. My deliveries come on Thusdays, usually late mornings, and I don't arrive home until evening. I've never had a problem with limp greens. |
| We use Green Grocer and their customer service is great. They answer E-Mails almost immediately. I can tell when we are eating a salad with their vegetables or those I've gotten from the Supermarket or Costco. We do get things that are new to us sometimes and we've learned some new things that way, but you're not stuck with things you really don't want or a bunch of random greens like you are with a CSA box. |
| I use Harvest Delivered - all their stuff is seasonal and from local farms, it's really fresh and good. I looked at Greengrocer but knew that they must be importing if they deliver citrus and bananas in March. I prefer local and freshly picked. |
