I am a legal immigrant to this country and ironically, was grilled by work visa officers on why I should take a local job from a local person when I lived and worked abroad. Why is that sentiment not allowed here? |

Because it's wrong. Just because a border control officer (or whoever) expressed that very wrong-headed sentiment, it doesn't mean you need to believe or repeat it.
I responded on that thread, OP, I'm a foreigner on a visa, and I don't believe in this myth that foreigners are taking a significant number of jobs away from a country's citizens... whatever the country, yours or mine or someone else's. The most qualified person does the job, end of story. You want the job, get qualified. You had a point about the competency, though! |
OP here. No it wasn't a border control officer, it was a work visa official. The PC intolerance of other points of view, especially from taxpaying citizens, in this country is extreme. As a foreigner on a work visa here, it is understandable that you would want to believe that you are not displacing a local citizen. |
