Notre Dame vaccinating entire student population before they leave; requiring it for Fall 2021

Anonymous
We had such an active thread hating on ND for opening last fall, and already people are claiming “red state” colleges aren’t going to require vaccination.

Kudos to ND for being on the forefront of both opening (and doing it VERY well overall, not a single death or serious student hospitalization) and mandatory vaccination. At least somewhere a sensible approach still exists.

I mean, good, but neither the school nor the student body has covered themselves in glory during Covid. I'm glad vaccination is now an option since social distancing and mask wearing was FAR outside their abilities.

Alabama has been vaccinating since January 25th

These types of responses are juvenile and asinine. Besides that wasn’t it the Roll Tide coach who absolutely continued despite testing positive?

And yet everybody was fine.

Stop the green monster responses.

You are speaking about the majority of universities in the US. ND had very strict protocols in place on campus which were followed for the most part. Unfortunately, Indiana and St. Joseph's County did not have the strict lockdowns in place to be able to enforce small groups in off campus residences. Therefore, the partying ensued. Law enforcement in other college locations with stricter guidelines were able to control off campus gatherings.

Many (most?) schools have.
It's not required though.

So far I think all the ones requiring it (from that list above) are private.

Prediction: these schools are just the leading edge and within a couple of months it will be the norm that students will need to be vaccinated to return to campus in the fall.

Agree and I hope you're right. I take it as a good sign on the East Coast that we have the Brown/Cornell/Northeastern news already

Prediction: Serious adverse effects from the vaccine will reverse this decision eventually. And lawsuits. Probably the lawsuits.
