Baking Class

Anonymous
Hello -

Does anyone know where a good place to take a "baking" class?

My wife is a good baker but wants to expand her skills a little. There are local trade schools and the communicaty college of course, but I think something a little less academic and demanding would be better at this point because of caring for our baby full time. She has tried to get into the Sur La Table classes, but they sell out faster than a U2 concert. Any advice? Has anyone tried a one-on-one class with a professional chef? There seems to be plenty of chefs/bakers willing to teach.

This is supposed to be a gift, but I'm sure she will end up reading this and figuring out who wrote it.

Thanks for any help.

The Post food section puts out a list of cooking classes every year--that's a good place to start

L'Academie de Cuisine in Bethesda has great baking classes for both professional bakers in training and people with a general interest. They're organized on a Fall/spring Schedule. Here's a link:

L'Academie de Cuisine is nice... but I would join their list to make sure you know as soon as classes are announced... some of them fill up quickly.
