planting raspberries

first time planting, do you plant these directly in the ground or in a garden bed? haven't tested our soil but it looks pretty clay like. thanks in advance!

I don't know what's best for your particular situation or type of raspberry, but I'll share that I started mine in a pot, which they quickly escaped from and now grow wherever the hell they want in my clay soil.

We get a lot, in my yard the birds go after strawberries because they are much easier to spot.

As others have said, they will spread like crazy. Keep it in a pot (make sure they don’t root through the pot), or be prepared for them to do as they please

Raspberries thrive in our area. Birds don't seem to eat mine. Plant along a fence in a sunny spot

We have a ton and love it. Birds don’t get them, really. We spend all summer eating them. I planted mine along my fence.

You can plant them in the ground. They may spread a bit but nothing crazy if you prune them correctly as you should be doing every year to keep the plant producing at its best. Make sure you know the variety of raspberry you’re getting. Summer and fall bearing raspberries get pruned differently.
