I understand that a few principals have announced that they are not returning next year. When do schools typically call out retirements? We have not been in person all year and would like to recognize some past teachers if they are not coming back.
Does anyone know when these announcements are typically sent? |
| Depends on the district. Mine asks staff to notify by February. But some don't until June. |
If there are specific teachers you'd want to send messages too, I'd highly recommend it anyways! Its been such a rough year that a nice note would go a thousand miles. |
| May generally at our school (not DCPS) |
I am curious about DCPS - which is why I posted on the DCPS forum. |
OP, you didn't ask specifically DCPS to start. I'm in DC, just at a public charter school rather than DCPS. |
| Our DCPS does not announce the teachers who aren't returning. In 6 years I recall one teacher who retired and there was a little thing for her but some have retired quietly and who know if the others who left retired, found a better job or were let go by the school. It is a bigger thing when a principal leaves since there is the whole selection committee to find a new principal. If you suspect a teacher is retiring why don't you just ask them if they will be back next year? |
