If you have one kid and no plans for more, what car do you drive?

All the threads about cars for bigger families got me thinking: what car do you drive with a small family? We have an only and no plans for a second. Currently drive a sedan (Toyota Camry) but are buying a new car soon. I do not want an SUV or crossover. Leaning towards a hatchback or wagon for the cargo space though, and because I used to drive one and I think they are generally just really practical cars. Thinking Subaru Impreza, VW Golf, or one of the small Mazda wagons.

What do other families with onlies drive and why? What's your ideal car for your family and why?

Not the answer you're looking for, but a Kia Sorento. Wanted a small suv with a pop-up third row for the few times a year we're carting grandparents around.

A prius v. We have a medium sized dog as well, so wanted an ok sized cargo space that could hold the dog crate.

We have a hybrid Ford Escape and really like it. It’s small, easy to park, and there’s tons of additional room if we fold down the seats (with or without the car seat).

BMW 3 series all-wheel drive

Honda CR-V. We have 2 dogs though so need the cargo area and I’m a first responder so need the all wheel drive.

Subaru Outback. We like the cargo space, esp for road trips and camping.

Lol OP. We have an Impreza hatchback and a Golf and we like both a lot. A hatchback is awesome for a small family. Unless your one kid decides to play hockey.

This. Or Forester, which sits a little higher so it's more of an SUV.

The only family people I know drive nice cars, like a Lexus. Why? Because they are rich from only having one kid

We have 2 and we drive a station wagon and a normal sedan. No need for more space.

We drive a Forester, and our rarely used spare car is an older Toyota sedan. DH and I both prefer driving the Forester rather than the sedan.

I have been thinking about getting a three-row SUV because the Forester is tight on camping trips (so much gear + dog) or when my parents visit. But I can't really justify it. An overhead storage pod would likely solve the camping gear issue.

We have two kids (4 and 2) and a civic and it is honestly totally fine. We've rented minivans before for road trips, but a month ago we took a 4 hr drive in our civic and it really wasn't worse than driving the minivan. I am a suburban mom and would have no problem buying a minivan, but as of now it really has not been necessary.

We have three kids and a minivan. Our other car is a CR-V hybrid, which I love. If we only had one kid, we’d probably have two of the CR-Vs. I feel like it’s the perfect size for 1-4 people, and I get 40 mpg.
