Wondering what folks think about this decision and will it impact what your junior decides to take?

If you think it means that they are going to somehow "dumb down" the class in ways that seem to perturb the wealthy parents of the neighborhood - remember that APs are a set curriculum. It's a good thing they are trying to make it more accessible. Nothing really to see here.

Ugh. Also means you’ll have some people in the class who don’t want to be there. A mix of interested and non-interested students is not as good for students and teachers alike.

it will be dumbed down if the class conversations are slow, basic and repetitive or kids are disrupted.

How do the teachers plan to effectively differentiate across a wide range of reading and knowledge levels?

Whatever they do, it’s not near as good as having a choice in your class.

they'll still dumb it down. On the plus side, you might get some grade inflation since they won't want to fail kids en mass either- maybe those kids go from earned Ds to Cs and push kids who earned Bs to As

Post the link showing this. It looks like honors history is still an option.
That bring said it looks like there is no on level biology, chemistry, uS history, geometry, algebra. Etc.

If everyone is in honors is it really honors?

There's no such thing as a set curriculum for AP and grades mean nothing in American high schools. You can call the class anything you'd like but that's the truth.

I have experience with both public and private schools in DC.

My DC's work in 7th grade at a private in pre-algebra was equivalent to 11th/12th grade Algebra in public. Sorry those are the facts.

I'm sure you are anxiously awaiting Ivy Day tomorrow for your special snowflakes' Princeton acceptance at age 13. How lucky you are to be able to brag about being at such a magical private school.

Wilson is consistent, first making it Honors for All for 9th, then 10th, and now 11th. By next year, the conversion will be complete.

I had really wanted my kids to be able to go there; I didn’t think we’d ever move out of DC. But clearly the Principal is attacking perceived inequity with a blunt tool, solving one problem by shifting the burden to others. This sucks.

+1 Wilson used to provide a challenging curriculum for those who want it, but still had another curriculum for those who needed a slower pace. Not anymore.

Before people start down some horrible racist path (actually, scratch that- seems like some of you are already down that path), this is NOT "AP for all"...this is to allow kids who want to take AP classes to take them even if they get a teacher recommendation for whatever reason (say, for example, implicit biases). Wilson will still have plenty of non AP classes and many kids will continue to not take the APs.

+1000
Of course AP classes have set curricula. Just go to the College Board website and look at them.

The AP Classes for All is a way for Wilson to ensure that any student who wants to take AP English or AP US History can take it, even if they don't get a teacher recommendation. Most students won't want to take them and they won't be forced to take it but they will have the option. Good for Wilson for putting it's money where its mouth is.
