My son is 14 months and I noticed that he got big head. is that pretty normal for his age. It seems that his head and body is not proportion. I seen some kids same as his age with smaller head. Is this something I should worry about? lately, he always bump his head by accident.. I don't know if that has something to do with that? Please help!

when he has his checkups the doctor's office should be measuring his head and giving you the percentile for head size--are they doing this?

Some kids inherit genetically big heads. Sometimes they grow into them. Our babies have the unfortunate luck of coming from two large headed families. With our first, the doctor was so concerned about the head size that we had ultrasounds and MRIs to rule out hydrocephalus and some other sort of growth. I had my pediatrician measure my husband's head and when she realized just how bizarrely big it was, the discussion was over.

They do go through phases though when their bodies catch up to the head. This might be one of those phases with your son. Also, his head might just appear big. It might not be big comparably. You should mention the concern to your doctor. I wouldn't worry too much though. Best of luck.

My husband and I both have big heads, and my daughter's head is HUGE. The doctor always wonders if the nurse measured incorrectly, but DD is just totally off the charts. Poor girl. Sometimes I'm amazed she doesn't fall over. However, when I look at pictures of my husband and I as kids, I can happily report that we look much more normal as adults. Don't worry!

Both my DDs (3 yrs and 8 months) have off the chart heads, thanks to good family genes : ) ! I think by the time my older DD was 2 - her body started catching up. (we also did the CAT scan thing with my older DD) I never thought she looked odd - but everytime we went to the pediatrician, I'd get the "wow she has a big head". We laugh about it now.

Babies and toddlers do have perfectly sized heads for their age..the same proportions on an adult or older child would look odd. There is a reason that infant and toddler shirts have those buttons on the back and/or sides of the neck. It is because their neck size is small compared to their head size.

My brother had a giant head when he was a toddler. It looks much more normal now that he is 6'5".
