Our 10 week old was pretty shy when we first got him. Preferred to sit back when people/dogs came up to him, more of an observer than wanting to be in in the action. I wouldn’t say he was scared, but definitely unsure and lacking confidence and not boisterous like some other puppies I knew.
We prioritized socialization including having him meet as many people as possible, doing puppy “play dates” with trusted puppies we know and with an organization called Your Dog’s Friend, took him to busy places and dog friendly stores very early.
He is now five months and just the happiest, most confident thing ever - he loooooves all people and dogs and has no issues with noises or busy environments.
Who knows if he would have been like this anyway, but I’m really glad we really pushed early socialization, for him especially given his shyness and reticence.
