Infertility Support and Discussion

Hi everyone. DH and I were planning to TTC right before the time of my annual gyn visit. I definitely want a Pap smear before I get pregnant. I realize I may not get pregnant on the first cycle but I do have a history of getting pregnant easily. Should we wait an extra month until the exam is over? Is there any issue with getting pregnant before getting "checked out" by the dr.? I have no concerns and no reason to think anything is amiss, just wondering if I need a green light??
I am mostly wondering if the invasiveness of the exam (i.e. doctor physically touching cervix, ovaries) will interfere with conception should we be at the point (past ovulation) but not yet a positive HPT. Thanks everyone for your thoughts on this weird question. |
| A GYN exam should not interfere. The pap is done to your cervix and not your uterus. Even the uterine check shouldn't be a problem. A friend had her annual during her 2ww. She was pregnant at the time and didn't yet know it. Her son is 5 and everything is a-ok with him. |
| No, the annual exam it won't affect anything. You can even have a pap smear done during pregnancy if necessary. My previous OB did it for me while I was pregnant b/c it had been over a year since my last one. |
| I had some aspects of a pelvic exam done by an RE during a 2 week wait after an IVF cycle (the appointment was for a second opinion and had been schedule 2 months earlier, so the timing ended up being off). The new RE took a swab of my cervix to test for something and said that would not affect possible implantation. Good luck to you! |
