| Looking for a fall only soccer league that has 2 practices and a game per week for 5th grade DS in the Bethesda-Rockville area. Is there such an animal? |
| my kids have only played in virginia but two practices is the norm for that age for Rec |
| MSI rec was 1 practice a week 2 years ago and I was told that was the norm. |
| Find an MSI Classic team. Otherwise, travel, for 2x week. Though there isn't really fall only. Typically kids play fall and spring, but you could probably work something out. MSI rec would be easy to do fall only but you won't get 2x week and the competition level is not very high, so it depends what you're looking for. |
| Msi classic is probably the only option. Travel is year round. Rec has only one practice per week. |
| 2 practices a week is becoming more common. Clubs will have a club concept or academy joke of a practice to justify $2300 a year. 40 kids plus on half or quarter of a field is a joke. |
| PPA premier has this. |
This would be the best option and most affordable |
Unless classic is cheaper..I think classic is more popular |
| Thank you for the PPA recommendation. My DS said if we signed him up for 9 months of soccer at $1K+ he would disown us and would get our heads examined. |
| I think PPA is $200/mo so $2400/yr. it’s ridiculous. 2 practices a week in fall and spring, weekly practice in winter, weekend games in fall and spring. One week of summer camp. I would have dropped it by now but it’s been 50% off since the fall due to no games. |
The cheapest way to do Classic is to find a parent coached team. |
| I agree that the private clubs are a lot but otherwise your asking someone to donate their time as an adult coach. A lot of classic teams bring in a professional for at least one practice a week. |
| My kids play Rec in VA fall and spring and two practices is standard after u8. All volunteer coaches. Lots of kids only play in spring or fall. |

OP, since soccer is a 2 season league (Fall & Spring), I recommend that you be upfront with the coach and tell the coach that you are planing to participate the Fall season only so that the team wouldn’t be short handed for the Spring season.
I don’t know how serious your DS is about soccer. If he’s not, I recommend you join a parent-coached team. It’s much cheaper and typically a lot more flexible. In MoCo, MSI is the largest soccer club with approximately 20,000 players. If you’re thinking of MSI, keep in mind that there are Recreation Soccer, Select Soccer (ie MSI Classic) and Travel Soccer (MSI Academy). MSI Recreation are all parent-coaches teams, Classic Teams have both paid-coaches and parent-coaches. And lastly MSI Academy are all professional paid-coaches. Good luck. |
