Math thread follow up question

If you were already planning to move from FCPS given the handling of this year, would this news finalize your decision?

You do realize this math switch is being proposed at the STATE level right?

Dp. Would private schools be required to follow the state guidelines?

Of course not "private"

If this goes through we'll move to MD by at least middle school.

I don't love the way FCPS jerked everyone around this year, but thought the majority of teachers tried their absolute best with the very crappy hand they were dealt. I don't think any of the surrounding counties handled it any better, nor did the places that opened "full time in person". It was a hopefully once in a life time unforeseen situation but not something that will alter the likelihood that my kid will be able to compete globally.

The proposed changes to math are a different matter. I don't see a lot of support for this amongst math teachers, which is a huge red flag. The other is that the places that already tried it had a lot of problems which were mostly glossed over. I don't buy it that even the best teachers can successfully differentiate to a class full of kids where some are multiple grade levels ahead and some can barely read three digit numbers, especially at the secondary level. I would seriously consider private school for my kids if these changes are implemented.
