| My daughter will not eat my homemade mac and cheese. But she loves the stuff in a box. I buy the Annie's brand in a box but don't like the amount of sodium it has in it. Has anyone perfected a mac and cheese recipe that tastes like it came from a box without all the sodium. |

What is it that she does not like about homemade? You can make homemade on top of the stove, for example, and it's pretty box-like (I prefer oven baked, which has a crisp top to it).
I'd say use American cheese (or a mix of 1/2 mild cheddar, 1/2 American cheese) to get it more box-like. Unfortunately, American has lots of sodium in it. I think you can find low sodium cheeses, but that actually might be what your child likes so much about the boxed stuff. |
| Maybe if you just used the skinny noodles from the box? |
Cook, drain, rinse the pasta. 4 cups Elbow or small shells. My children detest the wheat. Go to this website and pick your cheese : http://www.boarshead.com/sitemap.php http://www.boarshead.com/digicatessen.php?categoryID=5 Use 4 slices of mild cheese - shred it or dice it into teeny oieces. Lacey swiss, colby's, low sodium cheddar. Put in pot on very low heat with some butter or magarine and 1/2 to 1 tablespoon milk. You judge the consistency. Continuously whisk. Stir in pasta. |

you can buy bulk cheese powder and make your own cheese sauce just as quickly as you can from the box -- but I assume that the cheese powder also has salt in it.
