Will this strike down dc’s regs at all? I mean we have common sense gun laws. Will all that go out the window? What is the broader impact?

When violent predators are heavily armed with illegal weapons, but law abiding people are defenseless because it is so difficult to legally purchase and license a handgun or rifle in DC, we do NOT have "common sense" gun laws.

No, it’s not. In Maryland it’s essentially impossible for most people. Clearly you know nothing about it.

DC has a very straightforward permitting process. It’s time consuming, but it’s attainable for the general public. MD isn’t.

Completed a firearms training course by an instructor certified by the Chief ( You may apply for an exemption based on previous training within the past 2 years)
Is not presently an alcoholic, addict, or habitual user of a controlled dangerous substance, unless the habitual use of a controlled dangerous substance is under licensed medical direction.
Has not exhibited propensity for violence or instability that may reasonably render a person’s possession of a concealed pistol a danger to the person or another.
Does not currently suffer nor has suffered in the previous five years from any mental disorder, illness, or condition that creates a substantial risk that he or she is a danger to himself or herself or others.”


The requirements are simple - live or work in DC, or be a resident of the United States. Be legally permitted to possess a firearm. Register the firearm to be carried with MPD. Complete/Pass a 16 hour training class with proficiency demonstration. Pay for permit application fee. Receive permit in about 90 days.


Now tell me about Maryland....

So a 16 hour course vs a simple CCW class? The requirements you listed are pretty standard.

Now if you want to list "conditions" to get a ccw, every state has those.

Hey OP here. Can we discuss whether the SC ruling will potentially cancel out any of our existing gun laws? I’m not excited to see more people carrying guns.

Anyone who wants to carry a gun in DC can already go through the existing permit process, pay the fees, re-register their carry gun, pass a 16 hour training class, demonstrate proficiency and pass a law test, and get a carry permit in about 90 days.

Are the people who do all that the ones you’re worried about carrying guns?
