In ACPS, no, there is no assistant teacher in 1st. And there is a cap of about 22 or 24 kids in first, I think.

In APS, it’s one teacher.

If it’s an inclusion class there will be a sped coteacher. Otherwise no. Class size completely depends on the school.

In what district?

In LCPS it does not. But there are many different districts on this forum.

I don’t know of any in VA. Occasionally an EL or SPeD teacher will support. Some charters in Dc have “fellows” that work in classrooms, but I haven’t heard of two classroom teachers in VA.

Yes, every 1st grade in FCCPS has a teacher and an assistant.

The assistant is called a paraprofessional.

Same PP again. My child’s FCCPS 1st grade at Mount Daniel has 18 kids.

What district? In APS there is frequently one cotaught class at each grade level where a classroom teacher and a special education teacher work together. There are some students with IEPs in the class who receive their services in the general classroom setting. This benefits all the kids to have 2 teachers in the room, even those without an IEP.
